Compassion of Possibility — Cure vs Healing

There is a difference between cure and healing. The former is the elimination of a disease condition, aiming to return the body to its previous state. But the person may still remain in distress with continuing physical weakness. Healing, on the other hand, is holistic—encompassing total well-being: physical, mental, and emotional.

This is the story of Dhanam—a Life Coach with over 25 years of experience, Corporate Trainer, and NLP Practitioner. She shared the extreme anguish she underwent with her husband’s illness, her unemployment, and the uncertainty around their child’s education. It was a roller-coaster: unclear diagnosis, no definite treatment, and the added strain of the pandemic. Many decisions had to be made—finances for an uncertain treatment plan, and plans for their child’s education. The path ahead felt dark and uncertain.

What helped? Her quiet strength—and choosing not to see herself as a victim. She recognised her vulnerability and reached out for help. She began by saying she wasn’t giving ‘global gyan’, just what helped her:

Take baby steps. Accept your situation.

Be like a lotus—rise above the muddy water, bloom, and spread colour and joy.

Observe the leaf—it does not retain even a drop of water; let go of negative, self-diminishing beliefs.

“Body is free but mind is in a cage.” Notice where the mind is stuck.

Illness can change the body; do not let it define your worth.

Visualise a brighter tomorrow. Make hope a habit.

Adopting some of these simple practices can support our journey towards healing, resilience, and purpose.
